LeBasse Projects and Industry Partners are collaborating to present the Contrast Series, an ongoing series of murals and art installations across Los Angeles. Industry Partners, a Santa Monica based real estate services firm, and LeBasse Projects developed the idea of the Contrast Series in order to begin building cultural value into the fabric of neighborhood and community properties being developed.
While cities like Los Angeles generally encourage new real estate projects to include artwork, many times developers and property owners simply opt out, preferring not to commit the resources. Industry Partners feel that the integration of contemporary art into their projects is a necessary amenity to create a true sense of community - backing up their beliefs by making the voluntary integration of art a significant part of each building’s retrofit.
Both companies saw the immediate and future value of investing in public art. Public art does something that neither a public space without art nor even a museum with all its art can do: it can capture the eye and mind of someone passing through that immediate space. It can make one pay attention to their environment; it can encourage us to question what’s around us. Much of the newly built LA environments lack the resonance of history or reflection of civic ownership, which makes tenants proud of where they work. Carefully conceived public art installations and environments, rich with connections to culture, the natural world or the ephemeral quality of life, help make these places of meaning within a development. Art can highlight and celebrate the qualities that make one place different from another. Public art matters and the Contrast Series was created to emphasize that importance to Industry Partners and the tenants in its properties.
The Contrast Series will include an international roster of artists who will be invited to paint murals across some of the most desirable property locations and creative work spaces in the city.
